Free nicotine patches given away to help L.A. residents quit smoking - ContraCostaTimes.com.
Free nicotine patches and gum will be given out to Los Angeles County residents on a first come first serve basis in a bid to get tens of thousands of people to kick the habit.
The L.A. Quits campaign began on Monday, and includes handouts of 30,000 starter kits made up of gum, patches and pamphlets. The kits will be handed out at participating Ralphs' supermarkets until supplies last.

One Ohio health care provider say they are taking new steps to keep their employees healthy.
Starting July 1, all new people hired by Humana in Ohio will have to fill out a questionnaire about their tobacco habits. If the future employee uses tobacco, they will be required to enroll in Humana's new 'Breathe' program.
The 31 day program is designed to help users quit tobacco products. This will also be required of new employees at the Humana Center in East Walnut Hills.

Smokers and nonsmokers will usually agree that cigarettes are expensive, stain fingers and make hair smell bad.
More sobering, there are 443,000 tobacco-related deaths in America each year, according to the American Lung Association. This includes almost 50,000 deaths related to secondhand smoke (due to causes such as lung cancer and heart disease) and more than 700 residential fire deaths per year connected to cigarettes.
But kicking the habit can be nearly impossible for some; nicotine is more addictive even than cocaine and heroin, researchers have found.
