She spent at least $5 daily for her pack-a-day habit, and by year's end, her bill for her addiction totaled nearly $2,000. "I couldn't afford it," she said. But what Nachtmann was worried about even more was the cost of quitting. "You always hear about how expensive it is," she said. "And that can be a little scary, too."
