According to new data presented at the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Winter meeting, over one in five GPs hold misconceptions over the safety of nicotine in stop smoking products which impacts upon their likelihood to prescribe such products to their patients1.

For the first time in its 70-year history, Vienna's Opera Ball will outlaw smoking at Thursday's gala event. The organizers, taking pity on their tobacco-addicted guests, will hand out nicotine gum and cigarette-shaped inhalers at the cloakroom for those who need a fix.

NASCAR, a sport historically linked with cigarettes and chewing tobacco, has signed on what might seem a most unlikely sponsor: Nicorette. The stop-smoking product is the first to sign on with the car racing circuit. The Nicorette deal comes just a year after Winston stepped down as title sponsor of NASCAR's championship series — after 33 years — and was replaced by cell phone company Nextel.
